SD VIETNAM WAR MEMORIAL DEDICATION
The State of South Dakota pulled-out-the-stops this past weekend to thank the men who served in our country’s Armed Forces in Vietnam and during the Vietnam era. Thirty-two thousand people streamed into Pierre over the weekend to join the celebration. It was long overdue.
Twenty-eight thousand South Dakotans served during the Vietnam War. Dave Girard was one of those men. Dave served in “Nam” from 1969-70, and like a lot of the young men that fought in that war, turned 21 while “in-country”. We would like to add our thanks to those expressed at the SD Vietnam Memorial Dedication: thank you, Dave, and the thousands who served with you, for your service.
Perhaps there are others at Mills Construction who served in that war - we know some of you served in subsequent wars and as National Guard “peace-keepers”. The Vietnam War Memorial Dedication also provides a special opportunity to acknowledge the service and commitment of all South Dakota military personnel. We thank all of you who have served, or are serving, our country in the military.
(58,000 U.S. servicemen died in the Vietnam War - 210 were young men from the farms, ranches and small towns of South Dakota.)
